What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy is the use of "occupations", the meaningful things
we do on a daily basis, to improve an individual's quality of life. For
an infant or child, this is done through the use of play. A child's
occupational therapist will therapeutically incorporate a play-based
approach to help a child work through the appropriate developmental
stages. It is the unique and specialized incorporation of play-based
activities, including: multisensory play, fine motor tasks, self-help
activities (dressing, grooming, and eating) to improve developmental
challenges. It often includes specific adaptation of the environment
and, or child's behavior to achieve optimal success to improve the
quality of life of both the family and the child. The focus is to
create an environment that allows for a "just right challenge" so that a
child is challenged yet simultaneously successful.
